My son and I are going to build him an OM and he's got some flamed padauk for the b/s... I had gotten some nice Sitka for the top but he's thinking he'd like to do a dark top and he's not a fan of tinted wood... so I thought there might be some decent sinker out there.

After looking at a few sites, he's partial to the more stripey sets (not figured). I'm a little concerned that the flamed b/s with the striped top might be a bit like wearing striped pants with a plaid shirt (not that there's anything wrong with that...) but I'm only going to try to tell a 16 year old what he really wants for so long...

I've only found a couple sites with Sinker tops, and only one with any that tickled his fancy. I'd like to get a better selection.

I am going to go through all the sponsors sites today, but if anyone has some source suggestions outside of those, it's appreciated.

Thnx!

LOL... not sure how I ended up posting here.

Tim... I actually did end up there and bought on of those tops. Pricey, but it's likely the only guitar my son will ever build so it's worth the binding time... :-)

Ha! we'll see about that.

Everybody here who set out to make one instrument raise your hand.

Looks like some good sources were posted. I'm working on a very stripey top right now. More stripes = more mineral deposit = more brittle. This is my second sinker redwood top and this one is much more brittle than the previous. Definitely score your binding/purfling channels with a gramil. I learned that the hard way gaah. Luckily I started with a pretty conservative purfling scheme and was able to make it bigger to cover the chip out area and I like the design better now anyway. Just thought I'd share. Good Luck and happy building!!!
